Victoria's Katrina and Jason Nassichuk had two goals in mind when planning their wedding: a day that put guests' enjoyment at the top of the list, and a wedding where every element would be meaningful for the two of them — even if it meant bypassing convention or disregarding others' expectations. Rather than booking the usual hotel or hall, the couple chose a former limestone quarry in Bamberton, north of Victoria, for both their outdoor ceremony and reception. Guests were welcomed by live fiddle music, picnic blankets, popcorn, lemonade and lawn games — while Katrina and Jason broke with tradition and greeted each guest personally, creating a casual and festive atmosphere. Before the ceremony, guests soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed a barbecue dinner complete with fresh artisan bread displayed on rustic bread boards handmade by Katrina's father. Then it was time for the ceremony (yes, after dinner) in the grounds' orchard, where guests each held a lit candle as a blessing over the new marriage. Afterwards, it was party time, as everyone gathered inside the tent for a lively night of dancing into the wee hours, and munched on homemade sweets prepared by friends and family, including cookies, cupcakes and smores. At the end of the night, Katrina and Jason sailed across the bay to spend the night at Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa, as their friends and family waved goodbye with lit sparklers in the cool night air.
