The Famous Players Band is Vancouver's gold standard for live music at weddings and events. Over the years, they have performed at thousands of venues and, in that time, have come up with a list of sure-fire hits to keep the dance floor movin' and groovin' all night long.
1. "Fireball" — Pitbull ft. John Ryan
It's an infectious mix: high energy, a Latin feel and an urban vibe. It's even got some great opportunities for crowd participation in the breakdown, which is always a smart move.
2. "Bust a Move" — Young MC
An oldie but a goodie. Audiences young and old can't help themselves from singing along to the hook.
3. "1999" — Prince
Play the synth intro alone and watch the swarms of people fill the dance floor!
4. "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" — Wham!
Maybe it's nostalgia for '80s pop in general or maybe it's the humour of that classic Zoolander gas-fight... whatever it is, people love this hit.
5. "Together Again" — Janet Jackson
Everybody loves a good Jackson tune, and this one seems to grab people and really pull them in. Is there anyone who doesn't know all the words to this chorus? We sure haven't met them yet.
6. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" — Whitney Houston
It's all in the title, but this peppy '80s smash is a classic on the dance floor for a reason. Get ready for a really loud sing-a-long chorus!
7. "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" — Jackie Wilson
With a great hook and some awesome background vocals for the chorus, this Motown classic is a can't-miss hit, each and every time. Add in a little easy-to-follow choreography and you've got a real party going with this one.
8. "Lido Shuffle" — Boz Scaggs
This hit really stands the test of time. It's a shuffle, so it's fun and easy for guests to dance many different styles to. And people young and old love to shout along to the chorus.
9. "Fishin' in the Dark" — The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
I know what you're thinking. "Isn't that a hard-core country tune?" It is... and everybody loves it.
10. "Empire State of Mind" — Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys
Sometimes the best crowd-pleasers aren't necessarily dance tunes, but instead just the ones that get you singing along. One word of warning: Covering Jay Z is tough. Best to call in the pros... like the Famous Players Band.
