A childhood crush blossoms into a fairy tale romance with a whimsical, themed wedding

Tracey and Calvin's story began when they were children. They had known each other from a young age as they were family friends but neither of them wanted to admit that they had crushes on each other since the beginning of high school. Since performing "Beauty and the Beast" together at a school talent show, this story has unintentionally become symbolic in their relationship. On their first anniversary, Calvin gifted Tracey a rose-adorned locket and has since kept up with the tradition, gifting his love rose jewelry. On their seventh anniversary, Calvin proposed with a beautiful—and meaningful—engagement ring in the shape of a rose. Needless to say, Beauty and the Beast became the theme of their love story and, fittingly, their wedding.

A soft and romantic palette with a subtle hint of the Disney film was what the couple envisioned for their big day. A majority of their families and friends are based in Vancouver while the couple currently resides in Edmonton. To bridge this gap, Kelowna was decided upon as the location for the wedding. Surrounded by the lush vineyards and beautiful Okanagan Lake, Summerhill Pyramid Winery was the venue of choice. The reception depicted their love story with personalized touches embedded into the ceremony: rose chocolate-dipped strawberries that the couple creates every Valentine's Day, a speech video offering thanks to their guests and a rose ceremony during which family members offered the newlyweds well wishes, to name just a few. It was the greatest start to their story as the Tale of the Truongs.

"Planning a wedding can be a very daunting task. Add in planning from afar for a destination location and it becomes even trickier. I believe that selecting a great team of talented vendors that you can trust is crucial as they can assist with the wedding planning, provide recommendations and help minimize the amount of stress leading up to the big day. I'm thankful that I had our friend and wedding planner, Hasti from La Vista Events, to assist me along the way. Her knowledge of vendors within the wedding industry led me to Yuriko from Vintage Origami. Had it not been for Yuriko, I don't believe that our vision for our fairy tale wedding would have been brought to life. It was after discovering our decorator that we were exposed to many Kelowna-area vendors. It's true what they say that once you book your venue, everything falls into place because it truly felt that way," explains Tracey Truong.
