Despite just four months to plan, Traci and Andrew celebrate in style outdoors
"Andrew proposed at the end of March 2017, and by early April we were looking at venues," says the bride. We met hiking—and both share a love for the outdoors—which is why we both fell head over heels for the Cheakamus Centre, a whimsical, woodsy venue in Brackendale, B.C. We looked at two other venues that day, and between appointments, Andrew looked at me and said, 'Let’s call the Cheakamus Centre and see what they have available.' He really doesn’t waste any time!". Luckily for us, they had a cancellation for September 9th. I thought he was crazy, I didn’t think we could plan a wedding in five months, not to mention we were going to be out of the country for one of those months, but we decided to go for it."
"We were going out of town in early May," explains Traci. "I knew I had to secure all of our vendors before then—and find a dress! I instantly jumped online and started sending emails. I booked my vendors, found the perfect dress and bridesmaid dresses, paid my deposits and then jumped on a plane to South America. While on vacation, we corresponded with our celebrant, Michele Davidson, who would create the most beautiful, custom ceremony sharing our story."
"As stressful as that month was, I found that front-loading that part of the planning process made the rest of the experience that much smoother. Booking vendors early eliminated a lot of stress later on and allowed me to focus on other aspects of the wedding, including decor, timeline and some other nice-to-haves."
"Our wedding was full of blush, gold and cream tones with lots of flowers and greenery, creating a whimsical feel. Our ceremony was outdoors, surrounded by beautiful trees, and the sound of nature. We had a stunning arbor, draped in blush chiffon and gorgeous seasonal flowers. Rug runners ran up the aisle and across where the bridal party stood, while guests sat on rows of log benches beneath string lights. This look continued to our indoor reception venue. I thought decor was going to be the easy part of planning the wedding, but there were times I worried that my vision wouldn’t look cohesive, and the last thing I wanted was for everything to look thrown together. I think that a lot of brides feel this way, and it’s only until you set up the venue that you can breathe a sigh of relief."
"The night before, we had a lot of hands on deck, making our ceremony and reception areas come to life. If you’re offered help, take it. Don’t be afraid to delegate, and if you want something done a certain way, say so! People are there because they want to help, and most will prefer direction, instead of being left to question whether or not they’re doing something right (Shout-out to my mom, Ingrid. Love you!)"
"Planning a wedding in four months is doable. We didn’t just plan any wedding, we planned our dream wedding. Sure, the time constraints may have added a bit of stress, but I’d do it all over again. I always tell people that planning a wedding comes with its share of stressors, but I’m glad those stressors only stuck with us for four months... and not a whole year or longer. If I can do it, you can do it. Happy planning!"
