A romantic touch of Italy makes Pina and Ben's wedding a personal affair

When planning their wedding, Pina and Ben envisioned an elegant, bohemian-inspired affair featuring personal elements to allow their personalities to shine. Pina really loved the soft, romantic, garden-inspired look of her flowers, with white, green, blush and burgundy tones to compliment the burgundy and blush bridesmaids' dresses. The bride also loves gold–so touches of gold made an appearance throughout the wedding. Their ceremony was at St. Helen’s Church with a reception at Terminal City Club.

Both being of Italian background, Pina and Ben chose a menu for the sit-down reception that paid homage to their heritage, featuring an antipasto plate, orecchiette with roasted tomato sauce, prawn risotto and red wine-braised short rib.

Continuing the emphasis on personal elements, tables were named after (mostly) Italian cities that meant something to the couple. The bride even gifted her bridesmaids monogrammed handkerchiefs that her grandmother gave her when she visited Italy last year. Ben is a cognac aficionado, so—after dinner—Ben’s favourite cognacs were served at a designated wooden bar as guests watched the first dance.

Pina’s family has been in the Vancouver coffee industry since the 1970s, so she wanted to honour this legacy by including a coffee bar at the wedding that served espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, Americanos and macchiatos. Pina is also a fresh flower lover so she made flowers a big part of the event by working with her florist to incorporate a large floral installation above the head table.

If Pina and Ben could offer a piece of advice to anyone planning a wedding, it would be to really let personality shine through by incorporating personal elements. It’s the best way to give your guests a sense of who you are, add character to your wedding and keep it from being generic. All this will truly make your wedding day your own.
