Briar Johnston, owner and principal planner of Epic Events, reveals how she created a romantic wedding that was all about the details

"It was such a delight to work with a bride who is an artist and creator in “real” life. Karen is a jewellery designer and the creative force behind MeiKu Designs. Throughout the planning of the wedding, she paid such careful attention to not only the esthetic of the wedding day details, but also the flow of events for her guests. We worked with such a carefully planned colour palette and all of the elements coordinated so perfectly.

"The wedding started at the naturally stunning UBC Botanical Gardens. We chose the arbour as a secluded and romantic spot to hold their ceremony. Our Little Flower Company created the most amazing whimsical bouquets for the bridal party. The guests then moved to Granville Island to a private patio cocktail party at Edible Canada. We made their space a touch more private with the addition of a 100-foot custom ribbon wall surrounding the patio. It added the perfect amount of whimsy and colour to the already stunning space.

"Guests moved inside for a delicious plated dinner, which included a selection of West Coast favourites like mussels in cast-iron skillets and possibly the most amazing chicken dish I have ever had the pleasure of eating (thyme and buckwheat-honey-glazed free-run chicken to be exact!). The tables were stunning and included hand-dip-dyed lace table runner that the bride and her close friend made. Again, Our Little Flower Company nailed all the pretty florals on the table and the space was gorgeous yet inviting.

"Karen and Kevin are big dessert fans so we went a little crazy on the late-night feast! Because there was no dance party planned, we made sure that all of the dessert elements were interactive and a form of entertainment. We had a stunning watercolour and spray-painted cake by Cake by Nicole, a doughnut bar and a cozy firepit and S'mores bar.

"I could write forever about the gorgeous details and amazing planning process this wedding was. It was such a pleasure to be a part of Karen and Kevin's wedding day. It was a bittersweet day as I watched this new friend walk down the aisle!"
