Combining tradition with comfort can be both challenging and rewarding

“Ask family members with specific requests to write them out and prioritize,” says Jodi Campbell, owner of Jodi Marie Events. “Then let them know that you may not be able to grant all of their wishes, but you’ll do your best. Go through the high priorities and start thinking of ways to incorporate them into your wedding plans.” Campbell adds that communication and compromise are hugely important. “If there’s a specific tradition you’re uncomfortable with, explain why you aren’t comfortable with it and work with that person to find another way to bring tradition to the wedding.” Campbell recalls one wedding where the bride wasn’t comfortable with how much time the tea ceremony took away from the morning of the wedding. “Her parents really wanted the tea ceremony to take place, so after some discussion, they compromised by doing the tea ceremony the day before the wedding.”
