Looking for a way to update the tropical trend with a modern edge? Jaleh Fotoohi of JEvents Planning & Design takes a fresh approach to the trendy motif
Avoiding the obvious pineapples and palms, the nod to the tropics is subtle here, with dramatic florals like anthuriums and peonies creating a sophisticated look. When every component is used in moderation, nothing overpowers, allowing the beauty of each element to shine
“Often weddings end up including a lot of everything and become replicas of one another,” says Jaleh Fotoohi of JEvents Planning & Design. “Our biggest goal here was to be soft, clean and minimal. And I believe in the uniqueness of every human being, so I feel every wedding must be as special as them.”
The tablescape features tall white candlesticks to create clean lines and rose-tinted glassware for consistency in colour, both from JEvents & Design. The stunning botanicals, like the drapey asparagus fern, create a sense of movement. For a one-of-a-kind touch, artist Kelsie Grazier hand-painted a table runner to tie everything together.
Sweet little raspberry-topped cakes by The Cake & The Giraffe are set off on layered dishes anchored by black chargers. The gold flatware and small pink plates were provided by The Cross Decor & Design, the table from LoungeWorks and the bench and stools from Art of the Party.
This modern halter-style silk “Dannii” gown by Dan Jones from Rituals of Love bridal is a stunning option for both ceremony and reception. Denise Elliott Beauty Co. created the model’s super fresh look. The pink background wall was provided by UrbanWalls.
Art Deco-inspired, this stationery by graphic designer Meg White is the perfect complement to the understated decor. Script fonts and anything too fussy would have disrupted the overall clean, modern feel.
Cavalier fine jewellery supplied a diamond marquise engagement ring; three wedding bands (including one with marquise diamonds and one with pave diamonds made to fit the engagement ring); and diamond bar stud earrings, all in 14K rose gold.
The Cake & The Giraffe mirrored the brush strokes of Kelsie Grazier's hand-painted table runner to create these custom cylindrical cakes, which add height and a subtle touch of colour.
Floretta Flower Studio & Crafts incorporated grand flowers such as anthuriums and peonies, but just enough to make a statement (click here for the full list of the flowers used in this shoot.) Plexiglass pillars from Debut Event Design add height and drama without taking up visual space.
This sleek stretch crepe “Devon” gown by Theia from Rituals of Love bridal in Gastown is the perfect fit for the minimalistic vision.
