For bride Alisha Yau, the day of her wedding started off at a relaxed pace, sipping mimosas with her girls and her mom while watching Bridesmaids — but she confesses even that didn’t save her from a few butterflies as she got ready for her big day.

No doubt the butterflies calmed down once she saw groom Rob Enns. The couple enjoyed their first look at one another that day in the comfort of their own bedroom, before heading out to Gardner Park for photos with their wedding party.

Alisha and Rob then held their ceremony at the Ramada Abbotsford, where the bride recalls walking down the aisle on her father’s arm tuning out everyone out except her groom/best friend waiting for her.

“One of my favourite memories,” says Alisha, “was when Shawn (our officiant) told us to face our guests and said, ‘Look who has come to be here with you today. You will see some old friends, some new friends, some people who have held your hand through tough times and some people who have laughed with you through some of your best times.’ He then told them that they each held a meaningful presence in our lives and thanked them for coming.”

The couple also performed a wine box ceremony. They prepared a box containing a bottle of wine and two love letters stating why they fell in love with each other. “The idea is to open it up on our five-year anniversary and sip the wine and read them to each other. Sort of like a time capsule,” says Alisha.

After the ceremony, the couple headed to a private property down the road from the Ramada for another photo session. “The photos were just so romantic,” says Alisha. “It was nice to be alone as husband and wife and share a few quiet moments together before we headed back to our reception.”

For their reception, Alisha and Rob had chosen a modern contemporary theme, which Wedding Design Studio brought to life using a palette of purple, black and white, including fresh purple hydrangeas and elegant black chair covers. The reception itself was filled with speeches, laughter and, of course, food. Alisha recalls they received several compliments on their wedding feast.

The couple performed their first dance to “Give in to Me” from the movie Country Strong before rocking the night away to music spun by Garry Robertson DJs.

“The most important thing I did that day was to stop every hour or so and just take it all in,” remembers Alisha. “I didn’t want to be one of the many brides who say that the day was just a blur. I wanted to really remember our special day and by doing this, I really do remember every moment.”
