Planning a wedding when you’re a professional wedding planner might sound like a piece of cake. But new bride Pardip Bedi of local wedding planners Big Phat Indian Weddings tells us it’s a lot more work than you might think. Pardip met her future husband Gur Narwal in 2005, and he popped the question in September 2011 in impressive style. While the couple was out boating in English Bay, Gur had hired an airplane to fly over them with a sign asking Pardip to marry him. The wedding planning immediately went into full swing. On a beautiful summer’s day, the two married at a Sikh temple, the Dukh Nivaran Gurdwara in Surrey, with over 1,200 guests in attendance, not to mention nine bridesmaids and eight groomsmen. The following day, the pair hosted their elaborate reception at the Royal King Palace & Convention Center in Surrey with 900 guests. Pardip and Gur went all out with an Arabian Nights theme, complete with (faux) camels, elephants, lanterns and lamps. Guests were entertained with fire dancing and a DJ, while legendary Punjabi singer Sardara flew in from England to perfume his tunes from the ’80s and ’90s. The party went on until the early hours of the morning, with the last guest leaving at 4:30 a.m. “It was so special for us to be able to share this special day with all of our families and friends and actually be able to enjoy it, knowing everything was being handled by our family,” says Pardip. “The best part was, that since I am in the wedding industry, we had amazing vendors who are our good friends provide exceptional services to us, and it made it all that much easier and enjoyable, knowing that our wedding was being handled by the best of the best.”
