How to Look Boho-Beautiful on Your Big Day

Planning a boho-chic look for your wedding? Local fashion stylist Emily C. Miller put her talents to work recently on this lovely photo shoot featuring three fabulous bohemian bride looks. Shot on location at Parksville's Beach Club Resort, the shoot brought together a number of Vancouver Island style talents.

First up, on model Dennika Wheat, is a simple white high-low dress from Nanaimo's Lucid Clothing Store. Its flowing prettiness is matched with long, wavy locks created by Mi by Kiyo hair stylists Kiyomi Schulz and Chantel Cody using a ONE Styling Verge Curl Styx. The curls were then brushed through with a flat brush and finished with Bumble & Bumble Dry Spun Spray. The hair is parted in the centre in true boho tradition, and glammed up with a beaded headpiece from Blu Aura by Monica & Saide.

Below, pretty separates combine for a relaxed bridal look on model Krysta Knott. Here, a gold maxi skirt from Cayo Fashions in Nanaimo is paired with a spaghetti-strap ruffled camisole (stylist's own).

The relaxed vibe is carried through in Krysta's natural-looking tousled curls created with a ONE Styling Verge Bubble Wand. Using the fingers, the curls were separated, pulled apart and pushed back, with Bumble & Bumble Pret-a-Powder providing maximum volume and hold. The hair was then set with Bumble & Bumble Spray de Mode and finished with a simple headpiece from Blu Aura by Monica & Saide.

For cooler days, a lace cardigan top from Cayo Fashions adds a soft and cozy touch. Below it's matched with a ruffled-back skirt (stylist's own) and a bold brown belt from Nanaimo's Sartorial Boutique for a touch of edgy style.

Model Dennika's long locks enjoy a new twist (literally!) in this romantic braided updo. It's a true head-turner, thanks to the addition of eye-catching rings and hair combs by Miss Ellie.

Of course, the right makeup and nails are also a key part of creating a pulled-together bohemian bride look. Makeup artist Kat Cuell reveals that her favourite products used in this shoot were MAC Prep & Prime and MAC Lip Mix. "The Prep & Prime goes on before the lipstick application and gets rid of any cracking or dead skin on the surface. It makes the lips smooth and keeps them moist throughout the day. It's especially great for anyone whose lips have had to much sun exposure and are starting to peel.

"MAC Lip Mix is amazing. I have four colours in my kit: yellow, red, blue and white. Using all the primary colours you can literally create any any lip shade you desire! I started out with a beautiful peach nude lip and just by changing the formulation with the same product was able to create a vibrant orange lip for or second/evening look."

And according to nail artist Alison Coughlin of Kiyo Salon, "For boho bridal nails you can take a step away from traditional and go for a bit of extra length and shimmer. For this look, I used OPI polishes, Hopelessly in Love blended with silver and gold loose glitter, finishing off with Swarovski crystal jewels set into the moons of the nails. Sparitual is a line from B.C. that I use as well. They make very high-quality vegan and environmentally sensitive ranges. I finished the nails with Toute de Suite from their range for a lasting finish."
