Bowen Island has always been a special place for North Vancouver’s Melissa Anderson and Paul Sheremeta. On August 18, 2009, Paul surprised Melissa on their first date by taking her to a quaint Italian trattoria on Bowen Island called Tuscany. A year later, to the very day, they celebrated once again at Tuscany. Then, on August 18, 2011, with the help of two musician friends, Paul serenaded Melissa and proposed on Tuscany’s garden patio. Of course, her answer was yes, and they set the date of their wedding for (naturally) August 18, 2012. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple had a simple outdoor ceremony with the B.C. mountains and Bowen Island Marina as their backdrop. The bride walked down the aisle as Paul’s best man Colin Amey performed the original song, “Effortless,” which Paul and Colin had written. Melissa wore a gown by Canadian designer Lea-ann Belter that was also seen in the movie The Time Traveler’s Wife (it’s also now for sale by Melissa, for any interested brides!). The day came together with a little help from friends and family, including flowers arranged by Paul’s cousin Lori, and the hair and makeup expertise of Melissa’s friend Francesca. After the ceremony, it seemed only fitting for the couple to head back to Tuscany for the reception. There, they enjoyed delicious food and wine, plenty of laughs, and danced the night away on the garden patio. “When we celebrate our first anniversary, you know where we’ll be!” says Melissa.
