By now you may have already picked out your flowers, caterer and reception venue, and you’ve finalized your guest list. So what’s missing? There’s one important detail you don’t want to neglect, and that’s the wedding favours.
It’s an easy little item to miss – you can get so caught up in wedding planning that you forget about providing gifts for your important guests. Yet these trinkets are essential to demonstrate your gratitude to all the loved ones helping you celebrate your special day. After all, a wedding without guests is just an elopement!
So what should you give as favours? Luckily, you don’t need to break the bank to give amazing gifts. Here are some charming and easy DIY ideas that are sure to wow everyone on your list.
Mason jars are a wonderful and versatile starting point. They make the perfect container for holding your favourite DIY goodies, including cookies, jam, mints – you name it. You can also find mason jars with adorable daisy lids. Serve lemonade in them and add a colourful straw, or fill with candies that coordinate with your wedding palette.
Paper or paddle fans are a fun option that will also help keep your guests cool if you’re holding a summer wedding. Plus, they look great in photos. You can easily make them yourself using decorative paper and popsicle sticks or purchase ready-made fans that you can personalize. Photo above by Christina Symons
Bottles of homebrewed beer are always appreciated. You can even make different varieties to satisfy different palates. If you have a friend who’s into brewing their own beer, consider asking them to brew a case as a wedding gift. It will give your ceremony an intimate touch. Customizable bottle openers can make a great addition to your homebrewed beer.
Perfect for vintage weddings, matchboxes or matchbooks are practical, affordable and can be personalized. You can also add candles to the mix for a more substantial gift. Make them yourself or customize purchased ones.
Potted plants or mini terrariums are whimsical, practical and sustainable. Best of all, these favours double as table decorations that your guests can take home afterwards. Photo above by Christina Symons
Beautifully packaged bubble bath and DIY soap make useful gifts. To make a simple scrub, just combine sugar or sea salt with essential oils and other natural exfoliants before packing into a pretty jar. If you don’t have time to make your own bath treat, consider handmade soaps from Vancouver’s Simple Soap, which come with attractive customized wrappers (shown at top).
