"Alex and Calvin's Farmstrong wedding was the most perfect summer wedding," recalls photographer Henny Hwang of Hennygraphy of the day she shot last July at Armstrong's most beautiful cidery.
Family and friends all across Canada and from all over the world gathered together to celebrate the new beginning of these two. "The ceremony was help at the barn area... where the rays of natural lights were sneaking in through the little slits on the wall. It illuminated the room and filled it with warmth," says Hwang.

Wedding date: July 13, 2019
Approximate number of wedding guests: 120
Wedding theme and colours: Bold, jewel toned flowers and grey-green bridesmaid dresses. “I’m a teacher so getting married in the summer was the best option, but I love the Fall’s deep colours," says Alex.
Describe the top three best moments and why
“We started off the morning with the Chinese tradition of playing door breaker games. My bridesmaids organized a series of challenges for Calvin and his groomsmen to do. Calvin wasn’t allowed to see me until he’d beaten all the challenges so I was hiding and watching. The best challenge was they had to compose a choreographed dance to 'Sexual Healing' in five minutes!” says Alex. “I had asked our wedding planner to hide Smirnoff Ices on a few people’s chairs before the dinner. The tradition is if you find an Ice you have to get down on one knee and chug it immediately. Henny got some great shots of our friends (and Calvin!) doing their ices.”
“Our families love to drink, dance and celebrate so the dancing was definitely a highlight. The band and DJ played all our favourite hits and the party was going strong until the buses arrived at midnight to take us back to the hotel.”
Describe your top 3 favourite wedding details
“The flowers were straight from my dreams," says Alex. "I couldn’t have pictured anything more perfect if I’d tried. Jenner (from
Petal + Vow) sent me a plan in the Spring with light bridal flowers and I felt so upset. I called her right away and tried to explain my vision. She was so excited about it and totally exceeded my expectations. I wanted flowers that looked like they were in a Dutch still-life painting and she knew exactly what I meant.”
“The food was also very special," Alex adds. "We worked with
1609 Restaurant and Catering to create a menu that would pay homage to Calvin’s Asian heritage (like the pork belly), our personal favourite foods (veal piccata) and the produce to come from the Okanagan (the beet and goat cheese salad). Our biggest regret is not bringing tupperware to take home the leftovers!”
But the food wasn't the only thing that got the couple excited. “The band was amazing. It was so much fun to have live music and it something our guests are still talking about.”
