Jessica and Lee Baxter first met online, which wasn't the way either of them had ever expected to find love. From their first coffee date, the two hit it off immediately and hardly a day passed without their seeing or speaking to one another. When they decided to tie the knot, they were determined to have their wedding feel as easy and laid-back as their relationship had been all along. Jessica had always dreamed of an outdoor wedding and they finally found the perfect ceremony location in the garden of Kirkland House heritage home in Ladner. Then Jessica and Lee crossed their fingers that June would be a dry month. But just to be on the safe side, the smart couple also booked the Roundhouse in Vancouver's Yaletown, which would also provide the easy-going, vintage/rustic vibe they both wanted. Unfortunately, when the big day arrived, so did the rain. Undeterred, Jessica and Lee broke out the gum boots and umbrellas for their walk down the aisle, taking refuge under large tents and playing upbeat music instead of a traditional wedding march to get everyone in a festive mood. The party atmosphere carried over to the reception, where the Roundhouse was loaded up with bright colours, handmade touches, sweets (including homemade jam as wedding favours) and plenty of fun and games. Not wanting a dull sit-down affair, the couple had worked hard to keep guests entertained. Lee and his father built an oversized Jenga, while the couple made personalized viewfinders, brought in vintage video games for guests to play and featured board games as centrepieces. Recalls Jessica, "I never thought my vintage/home-style vibe would ever mix well with my husband's gamer lifestyle, but it did, thanks to all the help of our wonderful vendors, family and friends."
