Karon Blandino and Steve Miller started planning their wedding shortly after their engagement in June of 2012. As Steve had worked in catering during university, he was very involved in the planning process.
Looking through wedding blogs, Karon came across a gorgeous dahlia and succulent bouquet that perfectly mixed sage green with lush eggplant and blush/peach colours. The bouquet became the inspiration for their entire reception decor.
“We wanted our guests to feel like they were walking into an indoor garden party wedding with lots of light and romantic floral arrangements,” explains Karon. “To match that feel, we looked for a venue that was reflective of our beautiful West Coast environment. Westwood Plateau, with its large windows and expansive views of the mountains, was perfect for us.”
Lily Ayala from Divine Décor did a “fantastic job” with the centrepieces and most of the decorating, but despite all of her help, Karon still put in a lot of her own time working on DIY projects. Among the most time-consuming of these projects were the invitations, programs and other paper products, which she designed and put together herself, a giant paper flower backdrop for the head table, and the cakes, which she and her mother made together. “The days leading up to the wedding were busy and at times stressful,” she admits, “but it was all worth it.”
“Our wedding day was a fantastic celebration with our friends and family. Even the weather cooperated! My favourite moment of the day was definitely when we read our vows. We both also loved walking into the reception and seeing all of our friends and family gathered in the beautifully decorated room. It was a perfect day.”
