Aldergrove’s Laura and Dallas Vaughan were engaged in October 2013, giving them less than a year to plan their September destination wedding at Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort in Osoyoos.
Laura remembers waking up on the morning of September 27, 2014, surprised at how calm she felt. “I think it was the beautiful location on a gorgeous day and that everything was ready to go. I could just sit back and enjoy every second. And we did.”
Dallas and Laura enjoyed their “first look” and photos with their wedding party before their ceremony on the rooftop deck at Spirit Ridge where they exchanged “I do’s” in front of 150 guests. “I think that was the best part of the whole day, having all the most important people in the world to us, share in our excitement,” says Laura.
The reception began after the ceremony and photo session with family, with guests heading inside to the Spirit Ridge Conference Centre. Thanks to the resort’s chef, says Laura, guests are still raving about the food. “Dinner was great, and all of the speeches were incredibly thoughtful. Then it was the best dance party ever, equipped with a great DJ and photobooth,” she says.
Despite the challenges of planning a long-distance wedding, the couple credit the hard work of all their vendors, particularly Matt Kennedy Photography. “I figured our photographer would just show up and take the pictures we would expect on the day, but Matt and Carissa Kennedy kept in touch through the planning process and made the entire experience personal between us,” says Laura. “Above and beyond hardly describes what Matt Kennedy Photography does for their couples.”
As a tip for future brides, Laura recommends the “Real Touch” flowers and bouquets she purchased from Destination or Not. “They looked and even felt like real flowers… You can just squish them in a bag and when you get to your destination, simply fluff them up a little. I still have my bridal bouquet, in fact, and I’m happy I get to keep it for as long as I want it in perfect condition.”
