Luke Verkuylen and Lindsey Cram met while working at Earls Restaurants in Vancouver in 2008. The two dated for five years, some of that time spent long distance as Lindsey completed university in Victoria. In June 2013, Luke accepted the opportunity to move to Miami as the executive chef for a new Earls opening in the city. This gave the couple just four months to get engaged, get married and move down to Florida. Needless to say, there were a few stressful days, they now admit, but Luke and Lindsey were wed on July 6 in a very intimate ceremony with only a justice of the peace and their parents present. While they were now married legally (for the sake of the paperwork involved in moving to the U.S.), the couple “pretended” to still be engaged until their wedding celebration that September.

Lindsey’s maid of honour, a photographer herself, recommended they meet Ilia Horsburgh of Ilia Photography, who not only agreed to shoot their wedding but also suggested creating an engagement video. On a beautiful August afternoon in the midst of all the wedding and moving planning chaos, Ilia produced a sweet engagement video that captured one of the couple’s typical quiet Sundays shopping on Granville Island for unique ingredients and creating new dishes together.

Leading up to the wedding day, Vancouver saw more rain that September than in any September in quite a few years. Given their plans for an outdoor wedding celebration at Cammidge House in Boundary Bay, Luke and Lindsey prepared for the worst by ordering a bigger tent and purchasing large umbrellas. They woke up the morning of September 21 to a few dark clouds, but by noon, the weather had turned gorgeous. Lindsey and Luke like to credit their late grandparents for holding the clouds away, as their way of watching over the young couple on their special day.

The wedding celebration began at 3 p.m. where Luke and Lindsey were joined by 90 guests for a day filled with laughter, joy and love — not to mention great food and beautiful flowers.

As Luke and Lindsey begin their married life in Miami, they reflect on how incredibly grateful they are for the family and friends who have supported their relationship since the beginning. They are truly soul mates and best friends.
