Ryan and Melanie's mountaintop wedding last summer was a true adventure. The couple caught a gondola up to Eagle's Eye Restaurant at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, B.C., where they said “I do” in an intimate outdoor ceremony with the majestic Rocky Mountains serving as their backdrop. While the ceremony was followed by cocktails on the patio, this was no traditional wedding. Ryan and Melanie surprised their guests with an elaborate exit via helicopter, as the groom treated his new bride to a chopper tour over the glaciers. Later, they returned to their family’s cottage in nearby Invermere for a quiet paddle on the lake, and an informal reception at Eagle Ranch Golf Course. In between they hiked and biked in their wedding-day finery, contributing to a unique set of photos taken by Nelson-based photographer Melissa Welsh. In fact, the photographs were honoured earlier this month by the Professional Photographers of Canada—BC as the year’s “Best Wedding Album.”
