Not every couple gets to ski on their wedding day. But because Rummy and Jason love skiing, and chose a mountain resort as their venue, that’s exactly what happened. The couple first met at Silver Star Mountain Resort near Vernon and have skied there ever since — making the location the perfect spot for their snowy winter wedding.

For wedding planner Shawna Gray of White Orchid Wedding Consulting, the setting itself provided the inspiration for Rummy and Jason’s big day. The ceremony location, the Meadow, is surrounded by tall snowcapped trees and picturesque valley views and needed only a pair of rough cut-tree trunks, complemented by tall glass vases with cranberries, to serve as the altar. Rummy made a grand entrance in her dramatic blush gown, arriving at the ceremony in a horse-drawn red sleigh to greet her dapper groom in his classic black tuxedo.

Following the ceremony, the couple strapped on their skis and headed for the hills, making for some fun photos before it was time to head inside for their reception at the resort’s Den Bistro. Turning this casual pub into an elegant wedding venue in a single afternoon had been tasked to Stage Right etc. Using white fabric to drape the windows, jute table runners, wrought-iron and rustic wooden candleholders, and vases filled with cranberries and candles, the pub was transformed into a warm and elegant space softly lit by candlelight.

Keeping with the warm and cozy theme, Rummy and Jason provided their guests with red fleece blankets embroidered with their names as the wedding favour. And guests were treated to a hot chocolate bar and warm chocolate chip cookies.

Known for their sweet tooth, Rummy and Jason also opted for a dessert bar filled with their favourite winter treats, including mini pies, chocolate cupcakes, custom sugar cookies, warm toffee puddings and a special deconstructed wedding cake created by the groom’s sister, topped with three golden apples custom made by chocolatier Thomas Haas.

At the end of the evening, guests gathered to create a tunnel of sparklers through which Rummy and Jason departed for their sweet new life together.

(Rummy and Jason would like to add special thanks to Caitlyn Strange, the Silver Star wedding consultant: “We could not have done it without her!”)
