Not all of us can plan our own weddings and still be as carefree as DIY bride Jenny Kim. Jenny married sweetheart Lucas Wong in a traditional church ceremony before their elegant reception at Terminal City Club.

“Despite the fact that we did all the wedding planning and most of the décor ourselves,” says Jenny, “I was told that I was the most unstressed bride many of the vendors had ever seen. What was the most important was that we were marrying each other, and that’s it.”

Still, the day had its share of moments. Groom Lucas dropped the rings during the ceremony and he and his groomsmen had to chase  after the rings as they rolled away. Lucas was also unable to remember and repeat his vows after the officiant. “That’s too long,” he declared into the microphone.

Plus, this being Vancouver in April, it poured rain on Jenny and Lucas’s big day, drenching the couple and their photographer by the time the reception started. “I love that you can’t tell in any of our photos that it was raining so hard and it was cold,” says Jenny.

Thankfully, the couple had opted for a cheery yellow colour theme, using the colour in everything from the florals to the bridesmaid dresses, while warm shimmering gold dressed the reception tables.

Yet the rain never dampened this couple’s bright spirits. “We loved everything about the day,” says Jenny. “Thanks to our wonderful photographers, but also to our wedding party for just loving the day, rain or shine.”
