The morning of August 11, 2012 dawned with gorgeous sunshine under a blue sky, a perfect day for Vancouver's Marie-Astrid Dubant and Zied Trabelsi. Zied had spent the night at the Fairmont Pacific Rim with his four best men then headed to a barbershop in Gastown where the guys indulged in a fresh shave and haircut, while Marie-Astrid luxuriated in the spa with her bridesmaids and family members. As expected by by family and friends, the wedding day went just as Marie-Astrid had planned it for the past 12 months, and the ceremony venue, the Queen Elizabeth Park Celebration Pavilion, was exquisite. Marie-Astrid wore a new gown by New York-based designer Romona Keveza. "The dress had been created in Canada," says Marie-Astrid. "I was honoured to be the first bride to wear this magnificent, innovative, silk fitted dress, with one shoulder and a cathedral train." The reception venue, the historic and romantic Vancouver Club, wowed the gathered guests, 80 per cent of whom had flown in from as far away as France, South Africa, Australia and Tunisia, as well as from across Canada and the U.S. Since travel had been such a key part of their own relationship, Marie-Astrid and Zied chose a "Bon Voyage" theme for their wedding, using passports as invitations. Guests were greeted by two "flight attendants" who used vintage-style boarding tickets to guide everyone to their seats. "It was the best day ever in both our lives," says Marie-Astrid, "and we were thrilled to celebrate this day surrounded with our dear friends and family members.
