Victoria photographer Gwen Ewart is mad for vintage style. Which explains the inspiration behind her Mad Men-like vintage styled wedding shoot. Wanting to do something a little different than an average styled photo session, Gwen decided on a shoot that would more closely resemble a real wedding. “It was a lot of work and driving for everyone involved,” she says. Still, the day went smoothly and close to being on schedule, despite involving so many participants and different locations inVictoria that needed to be reached at certain scheduled times. The day started with “getting ready” shots, followed by “first look” portraits of the couple. The group then headed to a local church to meet the driver of their rented classic car and the shoot’s extras. Afterwards came a quick stop at Beacon Hill Drive Inn for some couple’s portraits and a much-needed ice cream break. Then came a pit stop for more photos at the 1950s-style Rogers Soda Shoppe downtown, before the “reception” at the Copper Owl bar and lounge — a recently opened venue above the historic Paul’s Motor Inn that hasn’t aged a day and provided the perfect setting for the shoot’s vintage feel.
